Nan Goldin’s autobiographical photo series, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, makes its way to Milan, currently on show at La Triennale di Milano. Originally made up of over 700 images, Goldin lays bare the intimate detail of everyday life on the Lower East Side during the ’80s; a self-portrait raw and unflinching in its subject matter. Describing her work as “the diary I let people read,” Goldin explores friendships, relationships and family ties. Decades on these brutally honest images, both tender and disquieting, have lost none of their power.
