Aitor Throup Costumes for Wayne McGregor Dance Performance

Designer and Creative Director Aitor Throup turns his hand to costume designing, outfitting the Wayne McGregor company for its touring run of Autobiography. The performance, which premiered last week at Sadler’s Wells London, tells the story of celebrated choreographer McGregor in abstract form, described as “a cycle of choreographic portraits illuminated by the sequencing of his own genome.”

Throup’s on-going investigation into anatomy and movement made him an obvious choice for Autobiography. Creating a monochrome modular layering system which changes and adapts across the course of the show, Throup explains:The genome concept behind ‘Autobiography’ and Wayne’s passion to explore his own identity through such depths inspired me to progress my own conceptual enquiry into the essence of self. My objective is always to create anatomical objects which can create an instinctive – and hopefully emotional – connection with the viewer or wearer.”
