Singapore-born, London-based photographer Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee shares her photo book with guileful intentions. Collaborating with and inspired by such artists as Vivian Fu, Ronan Mckenzie, Nobuyoshi Araki, and Yang Fu Fong, Lee address the fetishization of Asian women in her book, entitled ‘XING’. A Mandarin word with diverse meanings, ‘xing’ harkens to sex and sexuality, but also to awareness and personal essence. Lee fervently confronts common tropes in the Western evocation of Asian women in calling attention to promiscuity, delicacy and vulnerability. Check out Lee’s interview with Dazed here.
