New York based artist Micah Spear challenges the perception of value in currency with his latest series of works titled “Ø” / Null. Featuring a collection of vibrantly burned international currency notes encapsulated in lucite prisms, Spear's questions our society's obsession with commerce and materialism.
"Material culture has become synonymous with culture itself; you have to “buy in” to participate in most of new culture, and that within itself is sad,” says Spear. “Culture and materialism are synonymous, to the point where materialism is the expected norm.”
The exhibition launches April 7th 2017 at SO1 Gallery in Tokyo along with a limited edition book release with accompanied works by Elizabeth Renstrom, Joel Morley and Joanna Kawecki and Duane King.
