A proponent of mixed material construction and colour blocking, the latest piece from Junichi Abe's kolor / BEACON sub-label is subtly executed. Beginning his career as part of Comme des Garçons, under the likes of Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe - who were masters at the aforementioned ideas, it is clear to see where some of these inspirations are rooted; an example of where they have led is the Merrill Cotton Typewriter SS for the latest Spring/Summer season. Utilizing an recently ubiquitous silhouette - a 50's era wide spread collar s/s shirt, colour blocking is carefully chosen to emphasize the knit changeover at the bottom portion of the garment. Most Interesting to me is the difference in draping created between the comparratively more rigid cotton/nylon textile, originally developed for Typewriter ribbon, and the supple knit with ribbed hem causing a subtle billowing effect. Available now through HAVEN and kolor stockists world wide.
