This year electronics giant Sony will say goodbye to its landmark Ginza headquarters following a major demolition project which will see the space transformed into a public park opening its gates in 2018. While many will miss the soaring tower designed by leading Japanese architect Yoshinobu Ashihara, the scheme is an integral part of Sony’s vision for the future; a move to win back ground lost to the likes of Apple and an attempt to boost its profile in the run up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. To mark the occasion the company will showcase a huge selection of its past products from the groundbreaking first Walkman to the innovative Mini Disc alongside rare prototypes, colourful kids devices and Japan-only releases.
The “It’s a Sony” exhibition will run until March 21 st at 5-3- 1 Ginza Chuo-Ku, Tokyo.
