'Airportraits' Photograph series by Mike Kelley

Shot over two years, LA-based photographer Mike Kelley describes, “In a world where travel and shipping are considered mundane and even a nuisance, "Airportraits" seeks to visualize a linear and nearly invisible phenomenon that is often taken for granted.” Shot at airports worldwide, an eight-hour period of take-offs and landings are individually captured then layered together to illustrate the dense traffic that covers our skies. Seamlessly altered, these images manage to be both beautiful and completely terrifying; nightmarish scenes designed to make us rethink air travel’s impact both locally and globally.
