Beijing Missile Factory Reimagined as Automotive Workshop and Office Space

Neri & Hu, a Shanghai-based design studio, have transformed a former missile factory in Beijing into a fully-fledged automotive workshop complete with offices and an on-site café - all withholding an industrial aesthetic that respects the building's past life.

The firm retained the heritage of the site, while improving upon the foundations, by incorporating existing interior features into their design and capturing the foregone 'allure' of the car industry. Juxtaposing old and new has allowed Neri & Hu to bring two walks of life together in a space that is both fresh and full of character. Features such as a car lift, an open floor plan and offices overlooking the workshop, tie together the space that is built to house those working in various mediums.
