Mark Chronic | Silkscreen Prints

I have always pondered how the impact of certain fictional cartoons and animations has affected modern fashion and art so greatly. Across the globe, there are constantly new collaborations and products being released from designers and artists that references nostalgic childhood memories, creating something that both young and mature generations appreciate. For the most part, the work manages to create a feeling of being both current yet classic.

Tokyo based Australian artist Mark Drew is one individual in this vein who references classic Peanuts characters in his work, replacing the characters' innocent and naive speech bubbles with notable lyrics from hip hop artists such as The Wu Tang Clan, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, and more. His work carries a weight that is as sincere as it is edgy and feels familiar yet foreign at the same time depending on your own personal knowledge of the two colliding universes. Mark has recently released a set of four signed and numbered prints showcasing these references that are available for purchase online for $50 USD each. My personal favourite is a toss up between "The Shoes!" and "Shorty".
